A summer of fun and support when you pop Down Town

It’s been a busy and enjoyable summer at Down Town, with local families making the most of a packed programme of activities, affordable food offers and community support throughout the school holidays.

Our family fun activity days delivered by the Children and Family Well Being team have already welcomed more than 70 families to each event, bringing people together for fun activities and the chance to connect with others in the community. More than 100 people came along to meet the dinosaurs and take part in some roarsome dinosaur activities. If you missed them don’t worry they will be back! Keep an eye on our socials for more details!

If it’s not dinosaurs, join us for pirate and princess fun – again, watch our social media channels for more information.

Alongside these special events, there’s plenty happening every day at Down Town. Children can get involved in crafts, board games, playdough and sand play, providing lots of opportunities to keep busy, get creative and have fun during the holidays.

Children can also enjoy spending time in our Book Nook, where they can read, borrow and even take home books to help keep their reading going over the summer holidays.

We know the summer break can be expensive for many families, which is why our holiday food offers continue throughout the school holidays. Children can enjoy a free breakfast between 9.30am and 11am with a paying adult (minimum purchase one drink), while children can enjoy dinners from the kids’ menu for just £1 when an adult pays for one drink.

Meanwhile, our Community Grocery continues to provide affordable food, with membership costing just £1 a year. Members can choose between 12 points for £5 or 30 points for £12.50, helping household budgets stretch further. We’ll also be sharing simple recipe and snack ideas using ingredients available from the Grocery, giving families inspiration for healthy, affordable meals at home.

As we move through the summer and families start thinking ahead to September, Down Town remains here to offer support. Our drop-in sessions continue to be available for anyone who needs advice, information or a friendly conversation.

Our ReLove PreLoved Uniform Shop is also helping families get ready for the new school year. Thanks to ongoing donations from the community, families can pick up school uniform completely free of charge. Whether you’re donating items for another family to use, swapping outgrown uniform for larger sizes or looking for something specific, it’s always worth popping in to see what’s available. Stock is replenished regularly, so if you don’t find what you need straight away, check back another day.

Whether you’re looking for support, affordable food, school uniform, a good book or simply something fun for the children, there’s still plenty happening at Down Town this summer. Keep an eye on our social media channels for updates on future events and activities.
