What is the Kickstart scheme and is it for me?

The Kickstart Scheme forms part of the Government’s ‘Plan for Jobs’ skills and employment programmes, which also include Apprenticeships, T Levels and Traineeships.

If you are 16–24 year’s old and claiming Universal Credit, Kickstart offers 6-month work placements with local businesses. During your placement, you will have the chance to gain practical experience and develop transferable skills that will increase your chances of gaining permanent employment.

Oh, and you get paid too!

You will also receive additional employment support to help you during the 6-month placement. This support will also help you to build further employment prospects once your placement ends.

Placements are at least 25 hours a week and pay national minimum wage or living wage depending on your age. Also, you may also be eligible to continue receiving some benefits, dependant on your specific circumstances.

Kickstart scheme placements are available across a range of sectors from digital marketing to retail, engineering/ manufacturing, beauty and sports.

Speak to your work coach for more information and to apply for Kickstart jobs near you.
