Down Town team to climb the heights

Organised by Burnley Together, the Down Town team are taking on the challenge of climbing the equivalent of Mount Everest to raise funds for the Down Town facility.

On November 3rd, Staff from Burnley Leisure and Culture, Burnley Council, Community Grocery, BFC in the Community and Calico Homes will be climbing the stairs of The Calico Group building, Centenary Court. At a height of 60 feet, the team will have to climb the stairs 484 times to reach the summit of Mount Everest at 29,030 feet.

The challenge comes as a bid to raise funds to keep the Down Town facility up and running and delivering vital services to the community. Ran by Burnley Together, Down Town is a community shop in Burnley Town Centre providing the community with access to discounted food, school uniform, support and guidance services and a community kitchen and café ran by Burnley Leisure.

Nicola Larnach, Burnley Together Coordinator said: ‘Since opening our doors in May, we have seen increased demand at Down Town, recently the Community Grocer had its 1000th member at Down Town.

To keep the doors of Down Town open, we have to raise £30,000 a year. We will be doing fundraising events throughout the year with the first one being a team effort. We appreciate any support that helps us provide vital services to our community.’

All donations will go towards the facility running costs of Down Town, you can donate here: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/everest-down-town?utm_source=copyLink&utm_medium=one_page&utm_content=campaign/everest-down-town&utm_campaign=pfp-share&utm_term=e0708177eb064beb8477cc37c34af207
