Celebrating a year of Down Town

And just like that, we’re celebrating Down Town’s first birthday – and what a year it’s been!

On Thursday 16th May, we’ll be celebrating in style by throwing a big Birthday bash at Down Town. The family-fun event will include loads of fun games for everyone to enjoy, including a raffle, tombola, guess the teddy’s name and guess the number of sweets in a jar.

There’s plenty of food being rustled up too. We’ll be serving up celebratory cupcakes and mocktails, as well as hosting some live cooking demos. This way, everyone can take home some recipe knowledge before tucking into something delicious.

The event will be running from 10am until 2pm, with cooking demos taking place at 11am and 1pm. Bertie Bee will be making an appearance to entertain the kids too.

Celebrating a year of Down Town

Since opening our doors last year, we’ve supported thousands of individuals and families through our community events, uniform shop and community grocery.

In fact, back in November, Burnley Together achieved a momentous milestone, hitting the 10,000 member mark. This helped us support even more people across the Burnley and Padiham community, with more people than ever heading to Down Town to make the most of our services.

Last summer, we had 585 new memberships at the Community Grocery, with 1,000 memberships at Down Town More than 800 people have used the ‘Relove the Preloved’ school uniform shop, ensuring more kids all over Burnley are set for the classroom.

We had a big year raising money for Burnley Together too

Back in December, The Down Town team have achieved an outstanding feat by taking on the challenge of scaling the equivalent height of Mount Everest and successfully raising over £1000 in the process.

The target was to climb Centenary court 484 times, but the team overachieved by climbing the stairs 500 times! 26 people in total took part in the 2 and a half hours climb with the youngest member of the team being five years old.

We made Christmas special for thousands of families

In the true spirit of Christmas, we held our biggest toy drive yet. Over 5000 toys and gifts were donated by the generous people of Burnley and Padiham, meaning over 1200 children from 630 families opened gifts on Christmas morning. Thanks to the kindness of local people and businesses, 2023 was Burnley Together’s most successful Christmas toy appeal to date.

Here’s to many more years of Down Town and supporting Burnley and Padiham – we hope you enjoy our birthday as much as we do.

To find us, we’re located on the upper floor of Charter Walk Shopping Centre, above New Look (BB11 1QJ).
