Burnley Together got the Royal treatment this week, as they headed to Buckingham Palace for a once-in-a-lifetime garden party experience.
Burnley Together Co-ordinator Nicola Larnach and Gateway Operations Manager Leanne Townley joined over 6,000 guests at the garden party on May 20th to represent Burnley Together and the work they for in the community.
Talking about the day, Nicola said: “It was a phenomenal day. It was great to see so many people from all walks of life being celebrated for their work in their communities.”
During the event, guests were able to mingle, explore the Palace grounds, and enjoy delicious tea and cakes. The menu included a selection of classic sandwiches, wraps and cakes, as well as a choice of teas, coffees and juices.
They also got the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the day’s Royals in attendance – Prince William, Princess Kate, Zara and Eugenie.
Burnley Together were nominated by the Minster of Housing, Community and Local Government. Over the last few months, they visited for tours of Down Town to see the services provided. Burnley Together reps were also invited to attend discussions and meetings at the Town Hall.
Burnley Together’s community hub, Down Town, recently celebrated their two year anniversary. Over the last 24 months, the team have helped thousands of people from Burnley and Padiham with everything from food parcels to school holiday activities, free school uniforms, community support and advice.
Nicola continued: “We’ve evolved so much since we began, and it’s because of getting to know the people coming through the door. We listen and learn so we can provide the services people want and need – not what we think they need”.
She added: “Services now come to us and the more people hear about us, the better we can do”.
To celebrate their anniversary, Down Town held a raffle. The team managed to sell all 750 tickets printed, with all money raised going straight back into the running of Down Town.
