Local Businesses Supporting Burnley Together Through Employee Volunteering

We would like to say a huge thank you to the businesses that continue to support Burnley Together by empowering their staff to volunteer within the local community.

A E Yates Civil Engineering currently have staff members volunteering their time at Down Town Café and have also kindly donated money towards a new wardrobe for our Relove the Preloved shop.

Saffron Ramsey, Communications and Social Value Lead, said:

“We are currently working with Lancashire County Council on a construction project in Burnley town centre, and on every project, we aim to give back to the local community in which we work through using local labour, local businesses and partnering with local charities.

Burnley Together is a fantastic charity, and we have thoroughly enjoyed our time volunteering with them so far. The impact they have on the Burnley community is fantastic, especially their food parcels and community grocery that support families in need during the current cost of living crisis. Not only that, but they also support local groups that need a safe space to meet up, a café that can provide free hot meals, and supporting low-cost uniforms for school children – all of which we feel is essential for members of the community and we are proud to continue to support Burnley Together in any way we can.”

We would also like to thank Virgin Money Burnley Branch for supporting Down Town Café through colleague volunteering.

Nicola Ansell, Deputy Branch Manager, said:

“At Virgin Money, now part of Nationwide Building Society, each colleague is given 14 hours each year to volunteer in their local community, which gives us a real opportunity to support causes close to home. Our Burnley Virgin Money colleagues chose to get involved with Down Town Café as it’s a brilliant, volunteer-led, not-for-profit initiative that truly makes a difference locally.

“Volunteering at Down Town Café has been incredibly rewarding for the team. Spending even a couple of hours there allows colleagues to see first-hand the impact they can have — whether that’s supporting a welcoming space in the community or contributing to initiatives like the “pay it forward” scheme, which helps provide meals for those in need.

“As a business, it strengthens our connection to the community we serve, and for our colleagues, it builds confidence, teamwork, and a real sense of purpose. It’s something we genuinely enjoy being part of and are proud to support.”

We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of local businesses and the positive impact this has on the people and communities we work with across Burnley.

If your business would like to support Burnley Together through employee volunteering, fundraising, or donations, we would love to hear from you.
